Privacy & Cookie Policy

Who I am

This website, paoloplaysguitar.com, is run by Paolo Plays Guitar. I am the “data controller” for the personal information collected through this site, which means I decide how and why it is used.

If you have any questions about this policy or your data, you can contact me at hello@paoloplaysguitar.com.

This policy explains what information I collect, why I collect it, who I share it with, how long I keep it, and what your rights are. I have tried to keep it plain and simple.

What information I collect and why

When you use the contact form I collect your name, email address and the message you send. I use this only to reply to you. My lawful basis is my legitimate interest in answering your questions.

When you sign up to my newsletter I collect your email address (and your name, if you give it). I use it to send you guitar tips, practice ideas and offers. My lawful basis is your consent, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.

When you book a 1-to-1 lesson Bookings are handled through Calendly. I receive your name, email address, the time you booked and any notes you add. I use this to deliver and manage your lesson. My lawful basis is that it is necessary to carry out the contract between us.

When you buy the course Course purchases are handled through Kit and its payment partners. I receive your name, email address and order details. I do not see or store your full card details. I use this information to give you access to the course, provide support and keep records. My lawful bases are performing our contract and meeting my legal obligations (such as keeping financial records).

When you visit the website Like most websites, the site and its hosting provider automatically receive technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, which is used to keep the site secure and working properly. If you accept analytics cookies, I also use Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics to understand how people use the site. Clarity records how visitors click, scroll and move around pages, using session recordings and heatmaps. Google Analytics collects statistics about visits, such as which pages are viewed and where visitors come from. My lawful basis for this is your consent.

Who I share your information with

I do not sell your personal information. I only share it with the services that help me run the site and my business, such as newsletter webites and SEO tracking services, and only as far as needed for them to do their job.

Some of these providers are based outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, I rely on appropriate safeguards, such as approved international data transfer arrangements, to protect your information.

How long I keep your information

  • Contact form messages: up to 12 months after our last conversation
  • Newsletter details: until you unsubscribe
  • Lesson booking details: for as long as we are working together, and up to 12 months afterwards
  • Course purchase and payment records: 6 years, as required for tax and accounting purposes

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information I hold about you
  • ask me to correct anything that is inaccurate
  • ask me to delete your information
  • ask me to restrict or stop using your information
  • object to me using your information for my legitimate interests
  • withdraw your consent at any time (for example, by unsubscribing from the newsletter)
  • ask for your information in a portable format

To use any of these rights, email me at hello@paoloplaysguitar.com. If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. I would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Cookies

What are cookies? Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. They are used to make sites work, remember your choices and understand how a site is being used.

Cookies I use

Strictly necessary cookies. These are needed for the site to work properly and securely, such as basic WordPress and security cookies, and they do not need your consent.

Analytics cookies. These help me understand how people use the site so I can improve it. I use Microsoft Clarity, which records how visitors click, scroll and move around pages, and Google Analytics, which I connect through Google’s Site Kit plugin. These cookies are only set if you accept them.

Marketing cookies. I do not use advertising or marketing cookies.

Third-party cookies When you click through to services like Calendly, Kit, YouTube, TikTok or Instagram, those companies may set their own cookies. I do not control these, so please check their privacy policies for details.

Managing cookies You can change or withdraw your cookie choices at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though blocking some cookies may stop parts of the site from working.

This site links to other sites, including my YouTube, TikTok and Instagram profiles. I am not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies when you visit them.
